Pinewood Derby

Is a racing event where Cub Scouts build and race small, gravity-powered cars made from a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and metal axles. The cars can be customized through sanding, painting, and adding weights to comply with specific rules like weight, width and length.

The Races

The track has 8 lanes.

A HEAT is a match between 5 to 8 cars.

A RACE is made up of a bunch of heats.

The total number of heats necessary for all cars to go through all the lanes, regardless of the number of racers.

Each vehicle will race on each lane of the track once, equaling 8 total heats per vehicle, per race. The results will be calculated. The fastest time out of the 8 heats is taken for each derby car in that race time.

RACERS GET READY!!!

The Pinewood Derby is a super fun event for the whole family but, unfortunately, it cannot run without the help of the parents. That includes everything from helping scouts build their race cars, to volunteering to help put the event together. Pack 175 is a dynamic group which requires a coordinated effort from a lot of people to register race cars, setting up the event, running the race, and cleaning up. The more volunteers we have, the more seamless the event will run so we can all enjoy the event and make it memorable.
